The importance of supporting independent music—starts with you.
This is my friend, Bob Reynolds. Bar none the most talented sax player I have ever known. I’ve always been more of a blues girl than a jazz girl but Bob’s music really changed my mind. He’s really just that good. Of course, I also really LIKE Bob. He’s soft-spoken, witty, sweet, genuine and has an underlying energy and creativity I find so amazing and compelling.
I’ve been lucky enough to work with Bob on a few projects and I can tell you on a personal level that he takes the utmost care in every tiny piece of what he creates and he does so with integrity, sincerity and a deep-down soul love. Over the past several months Bob has been working on putting together a new album, working with a lot of other seriously talented musicians like John Mayer, Oli Rockberger and Janek Gwizdala to name a few. So far he’s invested nearly $30 Grand in this album of his own personal money and it will likely see only limited release, if any at all.
That just breaks my heart. Severely.
I wish there was some sort of magic button I could push that could change all of that. A button that would make people look around and realize all the amazing talent that surrounds them and be willing to get more involved.

It’s a blog Bob wrote about the album and the challenges he’s encountered. Keep in mind that he’s doing better than a lot of other independent musicians out there. Make your own choices about what you love or don’t love but please don’t forget the power of music. It’s what brought so many of us together. Most importantly, don’t forget that you may find something you absolutely love in unexpected places.
Please support independent music.
Here’s a track from the new album. It’s finished but I’m not sure what to do with it now. Read more about music-making math and why the record is not out yet here.
